PULLMAN, Wash.—Academic Media Services (AMS) is installing videoconferencing/web conferencing equipment in selected university classrooms on the Pullman campus this spring, reports Deborah Carlson, chair of the General University Classrooms (GUC) committee at Washington State University.

Three large classrooms will be equipped with video-conferencing capabilities similar to what’s available in the FSHN T101 room.  The system allows for a lecture to be captured and streamed for review at a later time.  These rooms will also provide users the ability to have camera shots of both the presenter and the audience.

Similar equipment will be installed in about six other smaller-sized classrooms throughout the campus.  The only equipment difference relates to the cameras.  These rooms will have instructor-only camera capability.

After spring semester ends, the GUC Committee will oversee a major upgrade in 12 Sloan Hall classrooms.  Those rooms will also be equipped with videoconference/webconference equipment.

AMS is also purchasing a mobile cart to deliver on-demand high quality videoconference equipment to almost any location on campus.

When future biennia funding becomes available, more classrooms will be equipped with this type of equipment.
