  • SUBJECT: Faculty Awards Program and Call for Nominations

I am pleased to announce the faculty awards program for academic year 2015-16.  Washington State University has more than 2,000 highly talented and dedicated faculty who, on a daily basis, enrich the lives of our students through high quality instruction while making tremendous contributions to our state, nation, and world in the areas of research, public service, scholarship, and arts.  Our university’s theme “World Class. Face to Face.” clearly reflects our superb faculty and their exemplary efforts.

In establishing university awards, Washington State University seeks to recognize the truly outstanding accomplishments and exceptional individual achievements of its faculty.  The awards are designed to honor those faculty members who epitomize the highest levels of excellence in the pursuit of the university’s mission and goals.  I am seeking your support in nominating outstanding faculty members whose performance clearly distinguishes them from their colleagues for these university-level awards.

The faculty awards I am seeking nominations for are:

  • Eminent Faculty Award;
  • Sahlin Faculty Excellence Awards;
    Instruction;
    Leadership;
    Outreach and Engagement;
    Research, Scholarship and Arts;
  • Distinguished Faculty Address;
  • Faculty Diversity Award;
  • Outstanding Department Chair/School/Director;
  • President’s Distinguished Teaching Award for Non-Tenure Track Faculty;
    and
  • President’s Award for Distinguished Lifetime Service.

Previous recipients of the awards can be found here.

Nominations for all awards are due in the Office of the Provost, Campus:  1046, by September 30, 2015.  All faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to nominate faculty members for these awards.

Nominators are asked to submit the enclosed nomination form, a copy of the nominee’s curriculum vitae, and a narrative of 1000 words or less, stating why the nominee meets the award criteria and is deserving of the award.  The nominator(s) may be asked to provide additional supporting information, such as additional letters of support, upon request from the selection committees.  Because of the competitive nature of these awards, resubmission of a previously-unsuccessful nomination is encouraged.  To improve the chances for success, nominators may contact the chair of the selection committee to determine why the previous nomination was unsuccessful. All awards will be presented at Showcase during the spring semester.
