Washington State University is set to welcome a freshman class filled with high achieving students and prestigious scholarship recipients this fall.

Concerted efforts by faculty, the Office of Admissions and Recruitment and many others have helped form an outstanding incoming class of scholars. Among confirmed students for fall 2018, there is a 30 percent increase in the number of top scholars (defined as having a minimum 3.7 GPA and a 2750 Q Value). A total of 492 top scholars were confirmed for 2018 versus 378 for 2017.

The number of Regents Scholars at WSU is also surging. The Regents Scholars program recognizes Washington’s best high school students for their hard work and academic achievements. Regents Scholars receive $4,000 scholarships for four years. In 2017 WSU confirmed admission for 87 Regents Scholars (41 percent). In 2018, 184 Regents Scholars (62 percent) have been confirmed at WSU.

After welcoming nine Distinguished Regents Scholars (who receive full tuition and mandatory fees for four years) last year, WSU has confirmed 12 DRS students for 2018.

The Honors College is expected to enroll a record number of students in the fall, and WSU’s first Gates Scholarship recipient has been confirmed for enrollment.

Many of these high achieving incoming students were contacted in person through WSU’s Faculty Call-a-thon and were honored at the Future Cougars of Distinction event, held this spring. These events helped students get to know dedicated faculty and the welcoming WSU community that distinguish our university.

Through rich classroom experiences, undergraduate research opportunities, and an incomparable college atmosphere, WSU is providing the transformative student experience that outstanding students seek.
