As the Spring Semester gets underway, we are excited about the prospects of the new decade ahead for WSU. I hope you are returning from the holiday break refreshed and ready to tackle your academic goals.

The Office of the Provost strives to advance the academic enterprise of WSU and promote the success of each student systemwide. We aim to serve as a valuable resource for faculty, staff and students. There are many opportunities for the community to engage in enriching events and activities systemwide. Here are just a few of the events we invite you to take advantage of this semester:

  • The Martin Luther King Jr. program celebrates Dr. King’s legacy and principles this month with a series of engaging events that you’ll want to put on your calendar. The Program is highlighted by W. Kamau Bell’s visit on January 23, which promises to challenge and inspire students, faculty, staff, and our community. The MLK Community Celebration will take place from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday evening in the CUB Senior and Junior Ballrooms.
  • Faculty are invited to the WSU Teaching Innovation Forum on President’s Day, February 17. The day is filled with engaging presentations and workshops for faculty at all levels. The event will take place in The Spark 335 and via videoconference. The day’s presentations will include collaboration and discussion with colleagues addressing common classroom challenges and best practices faculty are using to make major impact on students’ learning experiences. • Showcase is our annual celebration of WSU research, bringing faculty, staff, graduate/professional students and undergraduates together to exhibit their research and honor the achievements of our communities. Everyone is encouraged to present their research at Showcase, and instructors can encourage their undergrads to take part in SURCA, which offers a great experience in an uplifting environment. Other highlights of the week include the State of the University Address, set for March 24, and the Celebrating Excellence Banquet on March 27.

Check out the Provost Perspective each month for the latest news and highlights from the Office of the Provost and around the University. It’s our aim to go above and beyond to meet the needs of our academic community and advance the goals of the Drive to 25.
