Dr. Mitzi M. Montoya was named Provost and Executive Vice President of Washington State University in May, 2019 and began in her new role in August, 2019.
Montoya has a decorated career as an administrator, a scholar and a faculty member. Beginning in 2015, she served as the Sara Hart Kimball Dean of the College of Business at Oregon State University. The college experienced enrollment growth and dramatic increases in freshman retention during her tenure, as well as increases in the quality and quantity of research.
At Oregon State, Montoya also served as executive dean of the Business and Engineering Division and senior administrator for Portland Operations for Oregon State, as well as a professor in the College of Business.
Prior to her tenure at Oregon State, Montoya served in various leadership roles at Arizona State University. She was vice president and university dean of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, vice provost for ASU’s Polytechnic Campus, dean of the College of Technology and Innovation, and professor in the College of Technology and Innovation.
From 1995 through 2010, Montoya served in several leadership and faculty roles at North Carolina State University, including assistant dean of research in the College of Management and Zelnak Professor of Marketing and Innovation.
Montoya earned both her bachelor’s degree in Applied Engineering Science, and Ph.D. in Business at Michigan State University.
