VIRTUAL OPENING WELCOME, FACULTY PANEL DISCUSSION:

  • 9:10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
    • Welcome/Introduction
    • Land Acknowledgement – Christel Woods, Graduate Teaching Assistant, Department of English
    • “Tell the Story, Heal the Heart” Faculty Panel
      • Moderator: Dr. Clif Stratton, Vice Chancellor of Academic Engagement, WSU Pullman
      • Dr. Jacqueline Wilson, School of Music
      • Dr. Betty Wilson, Department of Human Development and Program in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
      • Dr. Alan Malfavon, Department of History

OFFERINGS BETWEEN 10:30 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.

  • 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.: Zen Den in SUB 120N, WSU Tri-Cities
    • Counseling & Wellness Services will host their traditional Zen Den event, an opportunity to focus on mindfulness, breathing, and other stress-relieving techniques.
  • 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.: Mental Health Support Space – Coug Circle: Racial Healing for Everyone in SUB 120, WSU Tri-Cities
    • The MOSAIC Center for Student Inclusion and Counseling & Wellness Services will host a special Coug Circle session on Racial Healing for Everyone. This monthly dialogue-based event is a judgement-free space for students to learn, express themselves, ask questions, and engage in personal conversations in a respectful and intentional manner.
  • 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.: Reflective Writing in SUB 120N, WSU Tri-Cities
    • Take a moment to reflect on your own relationship with your race, culture, family, and personal experiences that relate to your identities. Listen to a personal shared experience and sit in non-judgement of your own.
  • 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Mental Health Support Space in Floyd 101A, WSU Tri-Cities
    • The Mental Health Support Space provides drop-in, informal, private consultations with WSU mental health counselor, Sylvia. Consultations are about 20 minutes long and offered on a first come, first served basis.
  • 1:45 – 2:45 p.m.: Writers Give Voice: Reading and Open-Mic Poetry in the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, WSU Pullman and Livestreamed
    • As part of the National Day of Racial Healing 2024, the museum and WSU’s English Department will host a reading and open mic program in response to the theme of day. Readers will include WSU Campus Civic Poets & finalists, creative writing students and faculty, and student editors of WSU creative writing publications. All students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to bring a poem to read during the open mic portion. This program takes place live in the museum’s Pavilion Gallery, and will also be livestreamed on the WSU Global Campus YouTube channel.
  • 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.: Art for Healing in SUB 120N, WSU Tri-Cities
    • Arts Professor Marguerite Finch will host a presentation on how art can be a form of healing, storytelling, and connection between individuals. We will look at a variety of artists and different forms of artistic expression, followed by a painting activity for attendees to “Share Their Story & Heal Their Heart”.
