President, Provost update community at Town Halls

President Kirk Schulz and Provost Dan Bernardo are updating the WSU community on institutional progress and important initiatives at a series of town hall meetings this month.

Both the president and provost are visiting each college and each campus, reporting on our progress in the Drive to 25, the Strategic Plan, and several other ongoing initiatives. A summary of the University’s current budget situation is also provided. The town hall meetings include question-and-answer sessions, and many are streamed online for system-wide viewing.

WSU’s leaders are highlighting University enrollment, which has grown in size and diversity over the past five years, as well as our incoming students’ increased level of preparedness over the past two years. They also tout growth in research expenditures and achievements in each college and on each campus.

The Drive to 25 is well underway, with Action Plan leaders in place to focus on each set of metrics. President Schulz is unveiling a plan to balance the budget within two years, and indicates the budget review process is ongoing.

New and continuing initiatives featured include: the INTO program, which is bringing more international students to WSU beginning this fall; the expansion of online program offerings; the launch of the Kamiak High Performance Computing cluster; the growth in open education resources offered to students, saving thousands of dollars, and the upcoming launch of a new WSU daily bulletin to improve communication among faculty and staff.

Schulz welcomes feedback from the WSU community on the town hall meetings, and is encouraged at the progress each area is making.
