It prepares instructors to proactively consider ways to honor and engage with students\u2019 varied identities and lived experiences through assignments. Prior to joining the department in fall 2021, Dr. Mellinger taught at George Washington University, George Mason University, and American University. Before pursuing her Ph.D., she worked as a Board of Immigration Appeals Accredited Representative at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tahirih.org\/\">Tahirih Justice Center<\/a>, a national nonprofit organization that supports immigrant women and girls fleeing gender-based violence through a combination of legal representation, social services and public policy. Her work focuses on 20th century Southeastern Europe, and her research interests include\u00a0nationalism, socialism, Islam, cultural history, transnational history, multiculturalism, movement and migration, and the Global Cold War.
