PULLMAN<\/strong>, Wash.\u2014 All Washington State University instructional employees are invited to register for the first annual TEACHxWSU<\/a>, set for 9 a.m.\u20136 p.m. on Fri. Oct. 21, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All faculty, graduate assistants, administrators, and staff are welcome to sign up to attend in-person at the Pullman M.G. Carey Senior Ballroom in the Compton Union Building or through live-stream to other sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TEACHxWSU is hosted by the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President<\/a>, with support from the Teaching Academy<\/a>, Academic Outreach and Innovation<\/a>, and the Access Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe goal of TEACHxWSU is to share thought-provoking, evidence-based concepts and techniques with educators so that we can create high-quality teaching and learning environments for our students,\u201d said Joy Egbert, event organizer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TEACHxWSU participants can attend all day or wherever and whenever they can. Presentation recordings and transcripts, along with handouts and other resources, will be posted to the Teaching Academy website post-event, said Egbert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UDL topic of event<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To meet this goal, this year\u2019s TEACHxWSU features national and local experts focusing on Universal Design for Learning (UDL). The principles of UDL form a \u201cframework to improve and optimize teaching and learning for all people based on scientific insights into how people learn,\u201d explains the CAST website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UDL guidelines provide both theoretical and practical foundations for the instruction of diverse populations. They also offer suggestions that can be applied to any discipline or domain to ensure that all learners can access and participate in meaningful learning opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This focus on UDL ties to the 2022-23 faculty book club hosted by the Teaching Academy. The club is currently reading Reach Everyone, Teach Everyone: Universal Design for Learning in Higher Education<\/em>, by Thomas J. Tobin and Kirsten T. Behling, published in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
