TEACHxWSU 2023 Registration Open for Oct. 20 Events

Washington State University faculty and teaching staff and graduate students are invited to register by Mon. Oct. 9 for the second annual TEACHxWSU set for Friday, Oct. 20, with the theme of “Equity and Inclusion in Higher Education.” A morning keynote address and several afternoon sessions are offered in-person at WSU Pullman as well as virtually for participants systemwide. “We welcome educators across the WSU system to come together at TEACHxWSU to learn about the latest information available from our guest speakers and session leaders,” said Kara Whitman, chair of the WSU Teaching Academy.

Limited copies available for fall Teaching Academy Book Club registrants

Free copies of the book, “Equity and Inclusion in Higher Education: Strategies for Teaching,” will be available to the first 50 online registrants for the second Teaching Academy Book Club starting this fall. The academy’s membership consists of select faculty across the Washington State University system who are committed to elevating excellence in teaching and learning. The book club is a top academy initiative.

Faculty Sought for 2023 College Access Summer Programs

Washington State University faculty and graduate students are invited to apply to teach in late June and July for Cougs Rise Summer Program and Dare to Dream. While the schedule and content of courses can be quite flexible, expertise in a field and enthusiasm for WSU and prospective and incoming first-year students is required. “The summer, temporary teachers will be essential members of the teams, and will play a vital role in introducing college-level academics to eager and diverse populations,” said Randall Bennett, director of College Access and Transition Programs, in the Office of Academic Engagement (OAE).

WSU Teaching Academy recognizes four faculty with three awards

The Teaching Academy at Washington State University presented three types of awards to four faculty in recognition of their impact on excellence in teaching and learning across the institution. “The accomplishments of these educators underscore our goal to promote a culture centered around excellence in teaching and the scholarship of teaching,” said Kara Whitman, academy chair. “We are pleased to recognize them with these awards.”

Teaching Academy inducts 32 new members

The Teaching Academy at Washington State University added 32 new members to its membership roster at its first induction ceremony since 2020. “The organization is made up of educators from every college and campus who provide advocacy, expertise, and the resources to enable faculty to engage students in transformative learning experiences and achieve academic success,” said Kara Whitman, academy chair. “We are very pleased that so many talented and qualified educators applied for membership this year.”
