Applications open for Conference Registration Awards

Thanks to generous support from the WSU Teaching Academy, WSU faculty and instructors can apply for funding to support teaching conference expenses over the upcoming year. These awards cover the cost of registration fees to attend a conference, meeting, or workshop that will directly enhance the applicant’s classroom teaching and/or scholarship of teaching. All applications will be reviewed by a committee and competitively rated based on how attendance enhances the teaching of the applicant.

WSU Teaching Academy Presents Large-class and Outstanding Publication Awards

Three Washington State University faculty have received 2025 awards from the WSU Teaching Academy for their noteworthy accomplishments: Ananth Jillepalli, Molly Schotzko, and Brenna Miller. “The efforts of these educators is truly noteworthy, and the organization is honored to recognize their excellence with our awards,” said Kate Watts, academy chair. She also complimented Nicholas Cerruti, grants and awards chair, and his team for evaluating nominations.

WSU Teaching Academy Inducts 21 New Members

The Washington State University Teaching Academy welcomed 21 faculty from four campuses to its membership roster at an April 15 induction ceremony. “We are pleased with the exceptional teaching accomplishments of our newest members, and the breadth of their disciplines will add greatly to the scope of our organization,” said Kate Watts, academy chair.

Nominations open through March 28 for WSU Teaching Academy membership

The Washington State University Teaching Academy seeks nominations from Feb. 10 through March 21 for faculty from every college and campus to become members of the university’s premier organization dedicated to teaching excellence. This is the organization’s first drive since 2023 for new members, said Ashley Boyd, academy chair. “We invite tenure/tenure-track and career-track faculty with at least three years of teaching service at WSU and/or another institution to consider this opportunity to self-nominate and apply,” said Kate Watts, vice chair.

WSU Teaching Academy Presents Two Conference Awards

The Washington State University Teaching Academy has presented two Teaching Conference Registration Awards to faculty to attend a conference, meeting, or workshop that directly enhances classroom teaching and/or the scholarship of teaching. The 2024-25 recipients are June T. Sanders, assistant professor of digital technology and culture at WSU Pullman; and Raven Weaver, associate professor of human development at WSU Pullman.

Spring Teaching Academy Book Club Registration Opens, Copies Available

Free copies of the book, Grading for Equity: What It Is, Why It Matters, and How It Can Transform Schools and Classrooms by Joe Feldman, will be available to registrants for the next WSU Teaching Academy One-Read Book Club set to launch Feb. 17. Faculty, staff, and graduate students from every campus are invited to sign up. In addition to the asynchronous, online offering, academy members Blythe Duell and Philip Morgan will also offer two synchronous discussion meetings.

WSU Teaching Academy hosts mindfulness workshop Dec. 9

The Washington State University Teaching Academy offers to all faculty and staff systemwide an online mindfulness workshop from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, the first day of finals week. To attend, guests must register to receive the Zoom link to join the workshop. Leading the discussion are two members of the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, Dawn DeWitt and Skye McKennon.

WSU Teaching Academy Opens Applications for Conference Awards

The Washington State University Teaching Academy announces that applications are open through Nov. 15, 2025 for awards to cover faculty registration for a conference to develop and enhance teaching practices and/or the scholarship of teaching knowledge and skills. Recipients of the award must agree to present a “takeaway” from their conference attendance to the WSU teaching community, said Nicholas Cerruti, academy committee chair for grants and awards.

Registration Open for TEACHxWSU 2024 Set for Oct. 25

Washington State faculty, staff, and graduate students systemwide can register now for the Oct. 25 TEACHxWSU 2024 that is focused on becoming leaders and champions for a student-ready college, said Ashley Boyd, chair of the hosting WSU Teaching Academy. Programming runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
