PULLMAN, Wash.—The Washington State University Teaching Academy has opened online applications for three annual awards in support of great teaching and learning systemwide, said Nicholas Cerruti, member and grants and awards committee chair.
“The deadline is March 22, giving adequate time for teachers at every campus to evaluate each award and submit the required materials to be considered,” he said. The award recipients will be celebrated at an awards ceremony April 26.
Details to apply for the following awards are online:
- Outstanding Publication in the Scholarship of Teaching in Higher Education: It is presented to a WSU faculty member or members to recognize an outstanding publication in the scholarship of teaching in higher education.
- Teaching Conference Registration Award: It covers the cost of registration fees to attend a conference, meeting, or workshop that will directly enhance the applicant’s classroom teaching and/or scholarship of teaching.
- Award for Excellence in Teaching a Large Class: It recognizes achievement in teaching in one of the most difficult contexts—class sections of more than 50 students.
Questions about the awards can be sent to Cerruti.
The WSU Teaching Academy is made up of educators across the system who support its goals to promote a university culture that values, supports, and rewards excellence in teaching and the scholarship of teaching. They drive implementation of academic goals that elevate the quality of educational program processes and outcomes, and student achievement. Members support models of teaching and learning that foster deep and lasting understanding by learners. And, they facilitate the creation of mindsets and practices of students and faculty that drive self-motivated lifelong learning. The academy hosts each year a TEACHxWSU event focused on a special topic of interest and use to faculty and teaching graduate students. It also has a book club where teachers can delve into a shared book, discuss topics from it, and learn together.
