Position Vacancy and Announcement: Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education

The Office of the Provost is pleased to announce a search for a current WSU associate professor or full professor (career-track or tenured) to serve as Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. This full-time faculty position reports to the Provost and Executive Vice President and is a member of the Provost’s leadership team.

The Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education provides strategic leadership for WSU’s undergraduate academic enterprise, advancing excellence in teaching, learning, and student success. The role oversees undergraduate curricula, academic policies, and cross-unit initiatives that enhance the quality, accessibility, and coherence of the undergraduate experience. Working closely with deans, the Faculty Senate, and student support units, the Vice Provost strengthens retention and degree completion, promotes innovative pedagogy, and ensures alignment with institutional priorities.

The Vice Provost also provides executive oversight of the Division of Academic Engagement and Student Achievement (DAESA), aligning its programs, services, and curricular responsibilities with the university’s undergraduate mission. This includes leadership and coordination of DAESA’s core units, including the Office of Academic Engagement; Academic Success and Career Center; Office of Assessment for Curricular Effectiveness; Distinguished Scholarships Program; First-Year Programs; Math Learning Center; Office of Undergraduate Research; UCORE/University Common Requirements; and the Writing Program. Through this integrated portfolio, the Vice Provost advances student success, strengthens pathways to degree completion, and promotes high-impact educational experiences.

Representative examples of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education’s responsibilities include:

  • Co-chair the General Education Visioning Committee, leading a multi-year effort to reimagine and strengthen WSU’s general education program (UCORE).
  • Oversee the General University Classroom (GUC) Committee to ensure learning spaces support innovative teaching and advance the university’s academic mission.
  • Serve as a tri-chair of WSU’s Retention Council, guiding institution-wide student success and retention initiatives.
  • Serve on the University Requirement Petitions Committee, reviewing requests for substitutions or waivers of university graduation requirements.
  • Convene regular meetings with Associate Deans for Undergraduate Education to facilitate timely communication and provide a forum for feedback, discussion, and issue resolution.
  • Serve on the executive committee overseeing the next phase of WSU’s partnership with Georgia State University’s National Institute for Student Success, focused on implementing forthcoming recommendations to improve student outcomes.
  • Advance curricular innovation by establishing a suggestion portal and a University Curricular Innovation Committee that promotes cross-unit collaboration, coordinates stakeholder engagement, and supports academic units in developing proposals for Faculty Senate consideration through established degree-approval processes.
  • Partner with deans, department chairs, and directors to ensure WSU students have access to relevant and emerging technologies in the classroom and are equipped to thrive in an increasingly AI-enabled world.

Required Qualifications

  • Candidates must hold a doctorate and be either an associate professor or a full professor (career-track or tenured). A minimum of three (3) years of relevant higher education administrative experience is required.
  • Demonstrated excellence as an academic and administrative leader.
  • Administrative experience (e.g., chair, dean, director) involving undergraduate education, student success, and shared governance.
  • Strong knowledge of WSU’s Education Policy and Procedures Manual and Academic Regulations. 
  • Demonstrated successful problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills.

Appointment Status and Duration

  • Faculty, 12-month, 1.00 FTE position
  • Appointment term: September 1, 2026 – May 15, 2029 (*term may be adjusted to accommodate candidate’s current obligations)
