Washington State University is committed to supporting students, and has developed a network of resources to provide assistance in the area of academics. Students in need of academic support may not be aware of the resources available to them, or may be hesitant to use them. Faculty and staff play central roles in referring students to tutoring, academic advising, career advising, peer mentoring programs, and other services that can significantly impact their ability to graduate.
Early Academic Referrals
The Early Academic Referral System (EARS) program is designed to allow faculty and staff to refer undergraduate and pharmacy professional student to university resources for academic support. Early intervention is key to student success. Faculty are encouraged to utilize the referral system at the first signs of academic struggle. An advisor will make sure the student is able to connect with tutoring, advising, or the appropriate support system to help them get back on track. The goal is to get the student back in your class, engaged in the content, and equipped to finish the semester well. Examples of instances in which an academic referral may be appropriate include:
- Poor attendance record
- Lack of engagement
- Performance on coursework
- Performance on assessments
WSU Everett, WSU Global, WSU Pullman, WSU Tri-Cities, WSU Vancouver, and WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Faculty, Instructors, and Teaching Assistants, may use the “EARS Link” link below to access their myWSU account and complete authentication. Then go to your class roster and select the class section and student. Click the “Submit EAR” button connected to the student, select a Reason(s), add a comment, and click “Submit Referral” button at the bottom of the form.
