Senior Vice Provost for Health Sciences

The Office of the Provost is pleased to announce a search for a current WSU faculty member (associate professor, full professor, career-track, or tenured) to serve in an 18-month, 1.00 FTE faculty position as the Senior Vice Provost for Health Sciences. This position will report to the Provost and Executive Vice President and is a member of the Provost’s leadership team. The Senior Vice Provost for Health Sciences will advise the Provost and other institutional officers, providing evaluation and assessment of national trends and statewide issues in healthcare and healthcare education. The Senior Vice Provost for Health Sciences is responsible for the following efforts in coordination with all academic Deans:

  • Development of a university-wide health sciences-focused strategic plan/direction and associated external engagement and fundraising efforts.
  • Facilitating growth and visibility in the academic and research enterprises in partnership with other members of the Provost’s leadership team and the Vice President of Research, respectively.
  • Analyzing the healthcare workforce needs of Washington to develop new degree programs that meet identified gaps.
  • Serving on various boards to appropriately represent WSU’s health sciences enterprise.

Representative Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance the financial health of the Spokane health sciences campus.
  • Ensure strong collaborative relationships with the executive offices at WSU and other partner institutions, and the Deans of the academic colleges;
  • Take an active leadership role in promoting and building the awareness of the health profession programs at WSU, across the region, and nationally;
  • Collaborate with the academic Deans to develop a student-centered culture that enhances effective teaching, builds strong relationships between students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and promotes leadership development;
  • Explore the development of new health professions programs to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare community across the state.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Washington State University faculty member (associate professor, full professor, career-track or tenured)
  • Candidates must hold an earned doctorate and possess the qualifications for appointment as an associate professor or full professor (career-track or tenured). A minimum of three (3) years of relevant higher education administrative experience is required.
  • Demonstrated excellence as an academic and administrative leader.
  • Experience related to professional education, planning, advising, curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • A record of successful teaching, scholarship, and/or community engagement/outreach.
  • Demonstrated successful problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills.

Appointment Status and Duration

  • Faculty, 12-month, 1.00 FTE position
  • Appointment term: November 17, 2025 – June 30, 2027 (*term may be adjusted to accommodate candidate’s current obligations)
