In June 2016, the WSU Provost and Office of Research awarded more than $29 million over five years to support multidisciplinary research projects and student success initiatives. The awards demonstrate WSU’s commitment to offer a transformative educational experience to undergraduate and graduate students, and accelerating the development of a preeminent research portfolio.
The projects are supported by the strategic reallocation that took place in early 2016.
The research projects advance multidisciplinary efforts that fall under WSU’s Grand Challenges research priorities. Researchers from across campuses and colleges will collaborate on genomics, antimicrobial resistance, clean stormwater, health disparities, and more. The Student Success through Transformational Change Initiative is aimed at building resilience, purpose and growth through both faculty support and parental interventions. Another part of the initiative will focus specifically on upper class students to integrate peer mentoring programming and advising to move students into increasingly experiential learning opportunities.
