WSU celebrated its partnership with Spokane Falls Community College at a reception prior to the start of SFCC classes on the WSU Pullman campus.

The two schools worked together on the arrangement, which will bring about 230 SFCC students to take classes in the Math Learning Annex and Cleveland Hall. SFCC-Pullman had leased space at the Gladish Community Center in Pullman since 2000.

Close to 80 percent of SFCC Pullman students were previously and/or plan to be students at WSU Pullman. Studying at SFCC Pullman, students can earn an Associate of Arts degree (AA) or a Business AA, transfer to a four-year institution and earn a bachelor’s degree within another two years. In preparation for WSU, SFCC Pullman students can satisfy many of their undergraduate core requirements while getting to know the WSU Pullman campus and the community.

Spokane Community College is also offering Adult Basic Education, GED prep and high school completion courses in the Math Learning Annex.

Garret Kalt, ASWSU vice president, welcomed all SFCC Pullman students to the WSU Pullman campus, applauding their pursuit of higher education. Erica Austin, vice provost for academic affairs, said the SFCC partnership is central to both institutions’ missions, and Pullman mayor Glenn Johnson cited the “great synergy,” between WSU and SFCC.

Darren Pitcher, acting president of SFCC, said the partnership is advantageous for both institutions.

“We’re both pooling resources and I think this can be an excellent model for other institutions to follow,” says Pitcher.
