Extending a warm Cougar welcome

Dear Colleagues:

Those of you on the Pullman campus have undoubtedly noticed a number of prospective students and parents participating in tours and events and wandering around the campus and Pullman community. We have begun our Alive! program—13 two and a half-day orientation sessions designed to prepare incoming freshman and transfer students for the start of classes in the fall. We expect a large freshman and transfer class this fall semester, which is reflective of enhanced recruiting efforts and an improving reputation of WSU’s undergraduate experience.

I would ask that everyone go the extra mile to welcome these new members of the Cougar nation to our campus. WSU is known to be a welcoming, tight-knit community, and we need to demonstrate this every day as these students begin their higher education journey and throughout their time at WSU. If you see a student or parent, please welcome them to campus and express your appreciation for them choosing WSU. If they look lost or are looking at a map, stop and offer assistance. These small gestures can go a long way in assuring these students ultimately end up on campus in the fall and their parents are comfortable with their son’s or daughter’s university selection.

Thank you for all that you do for WSU and for making our community a welcoming one for new students.

Best regards,

Dan Bernardo
Provost and Executive Vice President
